In the community - Keeping fit
We recently sent a team of athletes (and "wannabe athletes") on their annual pilgrimage to compete in the Australian Corporate Games at Albert Park on the last weekend in November. As expected, results were mixed.
A basketball team entered but did not win any games.
Cliff Dawson and Peter Shields both ran 5km around the lake in their respective age groups. No medals were won or records set; they were just happy to make it.
Simon Dinér competed in squash and won three out of his four pool games but did not progress to the next round.
But our crowning glory came from Andreas Faulwetter. For the fourth year in a row, Andreas won the men's singles badminton event. (There are rumours that he will be banned next year to give someone else a chance.)
It was all good fun and there are plenty of stories of heroic exploits if you care to ask.
Raising money and a few blisters
Saward Dawson has entered a team in the Upstream Challenge, a 50 km walk through Melbourne starting in the city and ending in Donvale.
There were many blisters and some tired bodies at the finish line but importantly the team raises substantial funding for some very worthwhile organisations. In the ten years of doing the walk the team has raised in excess of $30K.
